Susan Salsbury

Susan Lennon Salsbury BS, OTR/L, CDMS, CSPHP is a 1980 graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Allied Medical Professions. She is a licensed Occupational Therapist, a Certified Disability Management Specialist and a Certified Safe Patient Handling Professional.

 

She has over 40 years’ experience in clinical and employer-based environments and has developed and implemented occupational rehabilitation programs in both settings. Susan has presented programs locally, statewide, and nationally on Transitional Work, Ergonomics, and Safe Patient Handling to health professional groups. 

 

She is currently employed with OhioHealth in Columbus, OH where she was instrumental in the development of a transitional work program and is responsible for ongoing growth and implementation of services. She has been involved with the safe patient handling and movement initiative with OhioHealth since 2004. She currently works as a workplace accommodation case manager. 

 

Susan completed a nursing research project studying the effects of a multifaceted minimal lift environment on nursing staff, which was published in the February 2010 issue of the Western Journal of Nursing Research. 

 

She is also published in peer-reviewed publications, including the American Journal of Safe Patient Handling and Movement, The Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing and Critical Care Nurse Q. Susan presented a short course at the American Occupational Therapy Association National Conference in April 2014 for the Work and Industry Specialty Interest Group about establishing occupational therapy services for onsite occupational rehabilitation. Susan participated in a consensus panel of subject matter experts on patient handling injuries sponsored by Sage, with submission of a manuscript to American Nurse Today January 2016. 

 

She is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association, the Ohio Occupational Therapy Association, and the Association of Safe Patient Handling Professionals. Susan serves on the board of the Central District Chapter of the Ohio Occupational Therapy Association. She is a Board member for the Association of Safe Patient Handling Professionals, co-chairing the Education Committee. She was awarded the Advocacy Award for Safe Patient Handling at the 2018 National Safe Patient Handling Conference.
